Iconic sportswear brand, Adidas, has announced the launch of its NFT (Non-Fungible Token) collection that’s coming soon titled ‘Into the Metaverse’.
The news comes not long after Adidas announced its partnership with three well-known and well-established players in the NFT space: PUNKS Comics, Gmoney, and of course, The Bored Ape Yacht Club.
There’s not much detail on the supply of these NFTs, and so their scarcity is currently unknown, however Adidas has revealed that their NFTs will serve as a kind of VIP Pass or Access Token which gives holders exclusive access to some Adidas products in the future, such as future merchandise, physical/digital products/services, as well as rewards within Adidas’ recently obtained plot of land within The Sandbox, and a whole host of other potential rewards or benefits.
The sale of this collection will commence through the Adidas website on the 17th of December, and the price will be set at 0.2ETH, or around $800.
In an interview, Gmoney had this to say about Adidas’ move into NFTs:
They have been very thoughtful and deliberate on their entrance into the space. I think they will help empower communities and creators by building together.
Adidas has been consistently shifting into the metaverse bit by bit including a purchase of Ape #8774 of the Bored Ape Yacht Club, which features a purple background, a gold hoop earring, heart-glasses, blue fur, a fisherman’s hat, and the ‘bored’ mouth trait.
Adidas since edited the image to have a purple background (though missing the gap in the gold hoop earring), and an Adidas tracksuit featuring the Adidas logo as well as the logos of their 3 respective partners: The Bored Ape Yacht Club, Gmoney, and PUNKS Comic.
Gmoney stated the following regarding his role in supporting Adidas’ shift to the metaverse:
I have been speaking to them since April, helping to guide them in their strategy, offering feedback on ideas, to make sure that they enter the space in a truly authentic manner. And I think we’re seeing that play out now, as Adidas has had the most authentic entry into the space so far.
It will be interesting to see what Adidas does next, as they’re taking their entry into the metaverse very seriously, and very authentically.
